The Throckmorton County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Throckmorton . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located about 150 km north of the geographic center of Texas and covers an area of 2,371 square kilometers, of which 8 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Baylor County , Young County , Stephens County , Shackelford County, and Haskell County .

history

Throckmorton County was formed in 1858 from parts of Fannin County . It was named after William Edward Throckmorton , an early settler in Collin County .
