The county is located about 150 km north of the geographic center of Texas and covers an area of ​​2,371 square kilometers, of which 8 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Baylor County , Young County , Stephens County , Shackelford County, and Haskell County .

history

Throckmorton County was formed in 1858 from parts of Fannin County . It was named after William Edward Throckmorton , an early settler in Collin County .
