The Llano County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Llano .

The county is located to the east, near the geographic center of Texas, and has an area of ​​2502 square kilometers, of which 81 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: San Saba County , Burnet County , Blanco County , Gillespie County, and Mason County .

history

Llano County was formed on February 1, 1856 from parts of Bexar County and Gillespie County. The administrative organization was completed on August 4th of the same year. It was named after the Llano River , whose name comes from the original Spanish name Rio de los Llanos ("River of the Prairie").

Seven structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 16, 2020, including the Llano County Courthouse and Jail , the Southern Hotel, and the Badu Building .

As of the 2000 census , Llano County had 17,044 people in 7,879 households and 5,365 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.27 percent white, 0.30 percent African American, 0.42 percent Native American, 0.38 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.77 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.84 percent were descended from two or more races. 5.13 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 7,879 households, 16.9 percent had children or young people living with them. 59.5 percent were married couples living together, 5.9 percent were single mothers and 31.9 percent were non-families. 28.3 percent were single households and 16.0 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.13 and the average family size was 2.56 people.

15.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 4.5 percent between 18 and 24, 18.4 percent between 25 and 44, 30.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 30.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 53 years. For every 100 females there were 94.4 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 91.7 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 34,830 , and the median income for a family is $ 40,597. Males had a median income of $ 30,839 versus $ 21,126 for females. The per capita income was $ 23,547. 7.2 percent of families and 10.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
