The Montgomery County is a county in the US state of Texas . The county seat is in Conroe .
geography
The county is located in the east of Texas, in the southeast about 70 km from the Gulf of Mexico and in the east about 100 km from Louisiana and belongs to the Houston metropolitan area . It has an area of 2789 square kilometers, of which 85 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Walker County , San Jacinto County , Liberty County , Harris County , Waller County, and Grimes County .
history
Montgomery County was formed on December 14, 1837 from parts of Washington County . It was named after Montgomery , the largest settlement when the county was formed. This place in turn was named in honor of Richard Montgomery , who was a general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War and who commanded the invasion of Canada .
One site in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 20, 2020, the Kirbee Kiln Site .

According to the 2000 census , Montgomery County had 293,768 people; 103,296 households and 80,157 families were counted. The population density was 109 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.25 percent white, 3.49 percent African American, 0.47 percent Native American, 1.11 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 4.86 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.79 percent were descended from two or more races. 12.65 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 103,296 households, 40.6 percent had children or young people living with them. 64.2 percent were married couples living together, 9.5 percent were single mothers, and 22.4 percent were non-families. 18.3 percent were single households and 6.2 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.83 and the average family size was 3.21 people.
29.5 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.0 percent between 18 and 24, 30.6 percent between 25 and 44, 23.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 8.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 95.4 males.
The median income for a household in the 50,864 US dollars , and the median income for a family was 58,983 USD. Males had a median income of $ 42,400 versus $ 28,270 for females. The per capita income was $ 24,544. 7.1 percent of families and 9.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
