Magnolia is a parish in Montgomery County north of the city of Tomball near Houston .

history

The first settlement emerged in the 1840s and was initially called Mink's Prairie, named after one of the first settlers, Joseph Mink. In 1850 the name was shortened to Mink . The first post office opened in 1858 , and on September 3, 1885 , John F. Doops became the first Mink, Texas postman. At the turn of the century Mink had 25 inhabitants, but that changed quickly in the following years.

On July 28, 1903 , the town of Mink was renamed Magnolia (Texas). During the same period, the I&GN Railroad was relocated near the city, so that there was an increasing influx of new residents. In 1915 Magnolia already had 150 residents, most of whom worked in the local sawmill.
