The Jack County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Jacksboro .

The county is north-northeast of the geographic center of Texas and is approximately 60 km north of Oklahoma . It has an area of ​​2383 square kilometers, of which 9 square kilometers are water. Jack County is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Clay County , Montague County , Wise County , Parker County , Palo Pinto County , Young County, and Archer County .

history

Jack County was formed on August 27, 1856 from parts of Cooke County . The administrative organization was completed on July 1, 1857. It was named after the brothers Patrick Churchill Jack (1808-1844) and William Houston Jack (1806-1844). Patrick Churchill was a member of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Texas in 1837/1838 and District Attorney in 1840/1841 . William Houston was a member of the Alabama State Legislature in 1829 and then served as an officer during the Texas Revolution , fought in the Battle of San Jacinto . In 1836 he was Secretary of State for the Republic of Texas and later a member of its House and Senate.

Two buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of November 12, 2019, with Fort Richardson having the status of a National Historic Landmark .

According to the 2000 census , Jack County's population was 8,763. Of these, 1,081 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 3,047 households and 2,227 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 120.4 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 126.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $ 32,500 , and the median income for a family is $ 37,323. Males had a median income of $ 28,838 versus $ 20,216 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,210. 10.1 percent of families and 12.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
