The Terrell County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Sanderson .
geography
The county is located in west-west Texas, borders Mexico to the south and has an area of 6,107 square kilometers, with no significant water surface. The county is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Pecos County , Crockett County , Val Verde County, and Brewster Counties .
history
Terrell County was formed in 1905 from parts of Pecos County. It was named after Alexander Watkins Terrell , prosecutor, judge, diplomat and officer of the Cavalry of the Confederacy and later US Senator from Texas.

As of the 2000 census , Terrell County had 1,081 people in 443 households and 295 families. The population density was 0.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.34 percent white, 1.67 percent African American and 8.33 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.02 percent were descended from two or more races. 48.57 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 443 households, 29.8 percent had children or young people living with them. 54.4 percent were married couples living together, 7.4 percent were single mothers and 33.4 percent were non-families. 31.8 percent were single households and 16.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.09 people.
26.5 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 5.0 percent between 18 and 24, 23.4 percent between 25 and 44, 27.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 17.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 103.2 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 101.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 24,219 , and the median income for a family is $ 28,906. Males had a median income of $ 21,429 versus $ 15,804 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,721. 21.2 percent of families and 25.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
