Portland is a city in San Patricio County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in southeast Texas, about 12 km northeast of Corpus Christi , borders Nueces Bay to the west , Corpus Christi Bay to the southeast, is about 25 km from the Gulf of Mexico in the southeast and has a total area of 24, 9 km 2 , of which 6.8 km 2 is water.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 , 14,827 people lived here in 5,021 households and 4,051 families. The population density was 820.2 people per km 2 . The racial the population was composed of 83.79% White, 4.11% African American, 0.57% Native American, 1.05% Asian, 0.20% Pacific Islander residents, and 7.43% non-residents ethnic groups. About 2.84% were mixed race and 26.10% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 5,021 households, 47.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 68.6% of them were married couples living together. 9.2% were single mothers and 19.3% were non-families. 16.1% of all households were single households and there were people living in 6.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.94 and the average family size was 3.30.
