Navasota is a city in Grimes County in the US state of Texas . According to the 2000 census, the population was 6,789.

In 2005, the state of Texas named the city "The Blues Capital of Texas" in honor of their late son and blues musician Mance Lipscomb . The jazz trumpeter Milt Larkin was born in Navasota in 1910 .
