Ponder is a city in Denton County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in northeast Texas, at the junction of Farm Roads 156 and 2449, on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in the west of the county, is about 60 km to the north from Oklahoma and has a total area of 8.2 km² without any significant body of water.
history
When the tracks were laid, the railway company named the small community Gerald and in 1887 the first passenger reached the place. Since there was already another place called Gerald in Texas, the place was renamed Ponder in 1889 in honor of WA Ponder , a large landowner and banker.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 507 people in 191 households and 148 families lived here. The population density was 61.8 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 94.08% White, 0.99% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 2.37% other ethnic groups. About 1.97% were of mixed race and 5.52% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 191 households, 35.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 70.2% of them were married couples living together. 6.8% were single mothers and 22.0% were non-families. 18.8% of all households were single households and there were people living in 7.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.03.
26.2% of the population were under 18 years old, 5.5% 18 to 24, 35.9% 25 to 44, 23.7% 45 to 64, and 8.7% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 91.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 91.8 men.
