Philipp Wedge

Philipp Keil (* 1790 ; † 1874 ) was commander of the Darmstadt Citizens Guard . He is an honorary citizen of Darmstadt .

Life

The major a. In the year of the March Revolution, 1848, at a citizens' meeting on March 18, D. was elected commander of the hastily built Citizens Guard, which after its complete formation was 650 men strong.

In the election campaign for the Frankfurt National Assembly , Keil was one of the Darmstadt electors elected at the beginning of May that year.

When parliament was opened in Frankfurt's Paulskirche and the Darmstadt regiments deployed against the Hecker Putsch in Baden returned, there were again nightly riots against which the citizen guard issued clear appeals at the request of the municipal council. Darmstadt was a city of civil servants and civil servants; further revolution was not in demand.

In 1850, Keil laid down command of the vigilante group and was made an honorary citizen by the city council on August 1st in recognition of his services.
