Bellmead is a city in McLennan County in the US state of Texas in the United States of America .

geography

The city is located on US Highway 35 in East Texas and has a total area of ​​16.1 km², without any significant water surface. The distance to Waco in the southwest is 9 km and to Dallas in the northeast about 150 km.

history

The place was founded in the mid- 1920s as a replenishment depot with ticket office and sales outlets of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad . After several families moved to this area to settle here, the first school, named Bellmead School , was built after the Belle Meade Farms , a horse ranch and breed that was very well known at the time.

In 1940 the place had 25 inhabitants. This only changed when the James Connally Air Force Base was opened in the northeast and in 1949 the population was already 800. In 1960 the place had 5127 residents and 85 shops.
