Hewitt is a city in McLennan County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in the east of Texas, a little west of the county center, 14 km west of Waco and has a total area of 17.9 km² without any significant water surface.
history
The place was founded in 1882, when the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad laid their tracks here. The place was named after George A. Hewitt , a railway director.

According to the 2000 census, 11,085 people in 3,931 households and 3,223 families lived here. The population density was 621.2 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 84.08% White, 7.70% African American, 0.42% Native American, 2.35% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, and 4.02% other ethnic groups. About 1.37% were of mixed race and 9.28% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,931 households, 45.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 68.3% of them were married couples living together. 10.9% were single mothers and 18.0% were non-families. 14.2% of all households were single households and there were people living in 3.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.12.
29.9% of the population were under 18 years old, 7.6% 18 to 24, 33.0% 25 to 44, 22.8% 45 to 64, and 6.7% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 94.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 91.2 men.
