Hico is a city in Hamilton County in the US state of Texas .
geography
The city is located a little northeast of the geographic center of Texas, in the northeast of the county on US Highway 281 and has a total area of 3.8 km² without any significant water surface.
history
The place was named after the hometown of its founder, Dr. John R. Alford from Hico , Kentucky .
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 1,341 people lived here in 556 households and 363 families. The population density was 352.2 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 90.23% White, 0.00% African American, 0.82% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, and 7.53% other ethnic groups. About 1.27% were of mixed race and 11.26% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 556 households, 30.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 51.4% of these were married couples living together. 10.6% were single mothers and 34.7% were non-families. 31.5% of all households were single households and there were people living in 22.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.99 people.
