The Calcasieu Parish ( French Paroisse de Calcasieu ) is a Parish in US -amerikanischen State Louisiana . In 2010 , the parish had 192,768 residents and a population density of 69.5 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Lake Charles , named after Charles Sallier, an early settler in the area.

The Parish is located in southwest Louisiana, above the mouth of the Calcasieu River in the Gulf of Mexico . To the west the county is bounded by the Sabine River , which also forms the border with Texas .
The parish has an area of 2834 square kilometers, of which 60 square kilometers are water surface.

The Calcasieu Parish was formed in 1840 from parts of the St. Landry Parish. It was named after the Calcasieu River.
