The Natchitoches Parish ( French Paroisse of Natchitoches ) is a Parish in US -amerikanischen State Louisiana . In 2010 , the parish had 39,566 residents and a population density of 12.2 people per square kilometer. By 2014 the population had decreased to 39,166. The Parish Seat is Natchitoches .
geography
The Parish is located in northwest Louisiana, about 50 km to the west from Texas , about 80 km to the north from Arkansas and has an area of 3,365 square kilometers, of which 114 square kilometers are water surface.
The largest river is the Red River , which flows through the Parish in a northwest-southeast direction. An oxbow lake of the Red River is the Cane River , which runs through the city of Natchitoches.

history
The Natchitoches Parish was formed in 1807 as one of the 19 original parishes. It was named after the Natchitoches , an Indian people belonging to the Caddo Confederation .
Five buildings and sites in the Parish have National Historic Landmark status due to their historical significance . A total of 36 buildings and sites in the Parish are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of November 7, 2017).
