The Rapides Parish ( French : Paroisse des Rapides ) is a parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . In 2010, the parish had 131,613 residents and a population density of 38.4 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Alexandria .

The Parish is located northwest of the geographic center of Louisiana, about 80 km to the west from Texas , about 100 km to the east from Mississippi and has an area of 3527 square kilometers, of which 102 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following parishes:

According to the 2000 census , Rapides Parish had 126,337 people in 47,120 households and 33,125 families. The population density was 37 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 66.51 percent white, 30.43 percent African American, 0.74 percent Native American, 0.86 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.42 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.01 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 1.38 percent of the population.

Of the 47,120 households, 34.6 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 49.7 percent were married couples living together, 16.8 percent were single mothers, 29.7 percent were non-families, 26.0 percent were single households, and 10.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.09.

In relation to the entire Parish, the population consisted of 27.2 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 9.5 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 13.1 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. Statistically, for every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were 88.0 men.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 29,856 , and the median income for a family was $ 36,671. Males had a median income of $ 29,775 versus $ 20,483 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,088. 16.4 percent of families and 20.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 26.3 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 16.3 percent were people over 65 years of age.
