The Jefferson Davis Parish was formed in 1912 from parts of the Calcasieu Parish. It was named after Jefferson Davis , the first and only President of the Confederate States of America .

According to the 2000 census , Jefferson Davis Parish had 31,435 people in 11,480 households and 8,529 families. The population density was 19 inhabitants per square kilometer.
