The Richland Parish ( French : Paroisse de Richland ) is a parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . At the 2010 census , the Parish had 20,725 residents and a population density of 14.3 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Rayville .

The Parish is located almost in the extreme north of Louisiana, is in the north about 50 km from Arkansas , in the east also about 50 km from Mississippi and has an area of ​​1462 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following parishes:

Richland Parish was formed on September 29, 1868 from parts of Carroll Parish, Franklin Parish, Morehouse Parish, and Ouachita Parish.

According to the 2000 census , Richland Parish had 20,981 people in 7,490 households and 5,482 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 60.96 percent white, 38.01 percent African American, 0.13 percent Native American, 0.18 percent Asian and 0.20 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.52 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 1.08 percent of the population.

In relation to the entire Parish, the population was composed of 27.3 percent residents under 18 years of age, 9.9 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 21.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 15.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 88.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 years or over, there were 84.3 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 23,668 , and the median income for a family is $ 29,075. Males had a median income of $ 28,471 versus $ 18,587 for females.
