The Vernon Parish ( French Paroisse de Vernon ) is a parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . In 2010 the parish had 52,334 residents and a population density of 15.2 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Leesville .

According to the 2000 census , Vernon Parish had 52,531 people in 18,260 households and 13,713 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 73.70 percent white, 17.06 percent African American, 1.46 percent Native American, 1.58 percent Asian, 0.30 percent from the Pacific island area and 2.50 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.40 percent were descended from two or more races. The median income for a household in the county is $ 31,216 , and the median income for a family is $ 34,680. Males had a median income of $ 26,451 versus $ 20,417 for females.
