The Red River Parish ( French Paroisse de la Rivière-Rouge ) is a parish in the US state of Louisiana . At the 2010 census , the parish had 9,091 inhabitants and a population density of 9 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Coushatta .

The Parish is located almost in the extreme northwest of Louisiana, is about 50 km to the west from Texas , about 80 km to the north from Arkansas and has an area of ​​1041 square kilometers, of which 33 square kilometers are water surface; largest river is the Red River . history

Red River Parish was formed in 1871 from parts of Bienville Parish, Bossier Parish, Caddo Parish, and Natchitoches Parish. It was named after the river of the same name on which the county is located.

Three buildings in the parish are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of November 9, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , the Red River Parish had 9,622 people in 3,414 households and 2,526 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 57.87 percent white, 40.91 percent African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 0.09 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.22 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.61 percent were descended from two or more races.
