The East Feliciana Parish ( French Paroisse de Feliciana Est ) is a Parish (an administrative unit) in the US state of Louisiana in the United States . In 2010 the parish had 20,267 residents and a population density of 17.3 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Clinton , named after New York Governor DeWitt Clinton .

The Parish is located east of the geographic center of Louisiana, borders Mississippi to the north and has an area of ​​1180 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water. It borders the following parishes and counties:

history

The Feliciana Parish was named after Maria Feliciana Saint-Maxent, the wife of Bernardo de Gálvez y Madrid . In 1824 this was divided and the East Feliciana Parish formed.

Two of the Parish sites have National Historic Landmark status due to their historical significance , The Courthouse and Lawyers' Row and Port Hudson State Historic Site . A total of 32 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of October 23, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , East Feliciana Parish had 21,360 people in 6,699 households and 5,030 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 51.79 percent white, 47.08 percent African American, 0.16 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian and 0.18 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.54 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 0.74 percent of the population.

Of the 6,699 households, 35.6 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 52.4 percent were married couples living together, 18.0 percent were single mothers, 24.9 percent were non-families, 22.5 percent were single households and 8.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.26.

In relation to the entire Parish, the population was composed of 25.7 percent residents under 18 years of age, 9.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 23.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 10.6 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 116.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 119.4 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 31,631 , and the median income for a family is $ 37,278. Males had a median income of $ 31,804 versus $ 20,243 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,428. 18.3 percent of families and 23.0 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 28.7 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 21.2 percent were people over 65 years of age.
