The East Baton Rouge Parish ( French Paroisse de Bâton-Rouge Est ) is a parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . At the 2010 census , the Parish had 440,171 residents and a population density of 372.7 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Baton Rouge .

The Parish is located in the central southeast of Louisiana, is about 40 km to the north from Mississippi and has an area of 1219 square kilometers, of which 39 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following parishes:

history
The East Baton Rouge Parish was formed in 1810 from parts of the West Florida Territory.
Due to their historical significance, three buildings in the Parish have the status of a National Historic Landmark , the Louisiana State Capitol , the Old Louisiana State Capitol and the destroyer USS Kidd . A total of 90 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of October 23, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , East Baton Rouge Parish had a population of 412,852. 14,584 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 156,365 households and 102,575 families. The population density was 350 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 56.17 percent white, 40.09 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 2.08 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.49 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.93 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 1.78 percent of the population.
Of the 156,365 households, 32.8 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 44.7 percent were married couples living together, 16.8 percent were single mothers, 34.4 percent were non-families, 26.9 percent were single households and 7.2 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.14.
In relation to the entire Parish, the population was composed of 26.2 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 14.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.8 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 9.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 91.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were 87.5 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 37,224 , and the median income for a family is $ 47,480. Males had a median income of $ 38,334 versus $ 25,073 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,790. 13.2 percent of families and 17.9 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 22.7 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 11.5 percent were people over 65 years of age.
