The West Baton Rouge Parish ( French Paroisse de Bâton Rouge Ouest ) is a parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . In 2010, the Parish had 23,788 residents and a population density of 48.1 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Port Allen .
The West Baton Rouge Parish is part of the metropolitan area around the city of Baton Rouge .

The Parish is located southeast of the geographic center of Louisiana, is about 50 km to the north from Mississippi and has an area of 527 square kilometers, of which 32 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following parishes:

history
West Baton Rouge Parish was formed in 1807 as one of the 19 original parishes. In 1812 it was divided into east and west.

According to the 2000 census , West Baton Rouge Parish had 21,601 people in 7,663 households and 5,739 families. The population density was 44 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 62.78 percent white, 35.49 percent African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.53 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.79 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 1.45 percent of the population.
Of the 7,663 households, 37.6 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 51.5 percent were married couples living together, 18.2 percent were single mothers, 25.1 percent were non-families, 21.5 percent were single households, and 7.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.20.
In relation to the entire Parish, the population was composed of 28.1 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 9.9 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 21.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 9.7 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 96.6 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 93.4 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 37,117 , and the median income for a family is $ 43,204. Males had a median income of $ 35,618 versus $ 22,960 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,773. 13.2 percent of families 17.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 22.2 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 13.1 percent were people over 65 years of age.
