The Vermilion Parish ( French Paroisse de Vermilion ) is a parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . At the 2010 census , the Parish had 57,999 residents and a population density of 19.1 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Abbeville .

According to the 2000 census , Vermilion Parish had 53,807 people in 19,832 households and 14,457 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 82.68 percent white, 14.17 percent African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 1.82 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.26 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.76 percent were descended from two or more races.
