The Pointe Coupee Parish ( French Paroisse de la Pointe-Coupée ) is a Parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . At the 2010 census , the Parish had 22,802 inhabitants and a population density of 15.8 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is New Roads .
The Pointe Coupee Parish is part of the metropolitan area around the city of Baton Rouge .

The Parish is located on the west bank of the Mississippi , near the geographic center of Louisiana, is about 20 km to the north from the state of Mississippi and has an area of 1530 square kilometers, of which 86 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following parishes:

In April 1795, the region hosted the Porte Coupée Conspiracy , the preparations for a slave revolt that would have become one of the largest in southern history. However, the white planters discovered the preparations two days before the day the uprising should have started.
Pointe Coupee Parish was formed in 1807 as one of the 19 original parishes.
One building in the Parish has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the Parlange Plantation House , due to its historical significance . A total of 32 structures and sites in the Parish are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of November 8, 2017).
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census , Pointe Coupee Parish had 22,763 people in 8,397 households and 6,171 families. The population density was 16 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 60.91 percent white, 37.79 percent African American, 0.17 percent Native American, 0.25 percent Asian and 0.32 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.56 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 1.08 percent of the population.
Of the 8,397 households, 35.2 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 53.7 percent were married couples living together, 15.3 percent were single mothers, 26.5 percent were non-families, 23.4 percent were single households, and 11.1 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.17.
In relation to the entire Parish, the population was composed of 27.3 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 8.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 23.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 13.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 94.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 90.7 men.
The median income for a household in the United States is 30,618, and the median income for a family is $ 36,625. Males had a median income of $ 35,022 versus $ 20,759 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,387. 18.7 percent of families and 23.1 percent of the population are below the poverty line. These included 30.2 percent of children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 23.9 percent of people over 65 years of age.
