The St. Helena Parish ( French Paroisse de Sainte-Hélène ) is a parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . In 2010, the Parish had 11,203 residents and a population density of 10.6 people per square kilometer. The administrative seat ( Parish Seat ) is Greensburg .
The St. Helena Parish is part of the metropolitan area around the city of Baton Rouge .

The Parish is located in the middle east of Louisiana, borders Mississippi to the north and has an area of 1060 square kilometers, of which three square kilometers are water. It borders the following parishes and counties:

history
St. Helena Parish was formed in 1810 from parts of the West Florida Territory.
Two buildings in the parish are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of November 10, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , St. Helena Parish had 10,525 people in 3,873 households and 2,784 families. The population density was 10 / km². The population is made up of 46.53 percent white, 52.42 percent African American, 0.10 percent Native American, 0.10 percent Asian, 0.01 percent Pacific islander, and 0.14 percent other ethnic group; 0.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.99 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups.
Of the 3,873 households, 34.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 48.9 percent were married couples living together, 18.4 percent were single mothers, 28.1 percent were non-families, 25.4 percent were single households, and 10.4 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.27.
In relation to the entire Parish, the population was composed of 29.0 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 9.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.1 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 23.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 12.5 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 92.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 87.6 men.
The median income for a household in the 24,970 USD , and the median income for a family was 29,950 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,218 versus $ 16,853 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,318. 22.8 percent of families and 26.8 percent of the population are below the poverty line. 35.5 percent of these were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 23.2 percent were people over 65 years of age.
