The Tangipahoa Parish ( French : Paroisse de Tangipahoa ) is a Parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . At the 2010 census , the Parish had 121,097 inhabitants and a population density of 59.2 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Amite City .

According to the 2000 census , Tangipahoa Parish had 100,588 people in 36,558 households and 25,773 families. The population density was 49 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 69.76 percent white, 28.35 percent African American, 0.24 percent Native American, 0.39 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.46 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.78 percent were descended from two or more races.
