The Concordia Parish ( French : Paroisse de Concordia ) is a parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . At the 2010 census , the Parish had 20,822 residents and a population density of 11.6 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Vidalia , named after Don Jose Vidal , a Spanish officer.

The Concordia Parish is located northeast of the geographic center of Louisiana, borders Mississippi to the east and has an area of 1939 square kilometers, of which 137 square kilometers are water. It borders the following parishes and counties:

history
Concordia Parish was formed in 1807 as one of the 19 original parishes. It was named after a Spanish military post.

According to the 2000 census , Concordia Parish was home to 20,247 people. 689 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 7,521 households and 5,430 families. The population density was 11 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 60.75 percent white, 37.72 percent African American, 0.16 percent Native American, 0.24 percent Asian and 0.55 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.58 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 1.48 percent of the population.
Of the 7,521 households, 33.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 49.0 percent were married couples living together, 19.0 percent were single mothers, 27.8 percent were non-families, 25.3 percent were single households, and 11.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.12.
In relation to the entire Parish, the population was composed of 27.8 percent residents under 18 years of age, 8.9 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 23.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 14.7 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 95.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 years or over, there were 91.9 men.
The median income for a household in the 22,742 USD , and the median income for a family was 28,629 USD. Males had a median income of $ 27,453 versus $ 18,678 for females. The per capita income was $ 11,966. 24.3 percent of families, 29.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. These included 42.0 percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 20.6 percent of senior citizens aged 65 and over.
