history
In the middle of the 19th century , some settlers settled in the area. In the early 1900s, the Texas and Pacific Railroad and the Memphis, Helena and Louisiana Railroad operated a few workshops there, which made the region more attractive. On the agriculturally used Helena Plantation , cotton was grown and the place was named Helena . However, since a train station with the same name already existed in Arkansas , it was renamed Ferriday in honor of the Ferriday family, who had made great contributions to the development of the place.
The writer Elaine Dundy authored a book on the history of the city under the title "Ferriday, Louisiana".
Today Ferriday is also active in the music industry , particularly in the fields of rock 'n' roll , country music and blues and is home to the Delta Music Museum .
