Howard K. Smith
Howard K. Smith (born May 12, 1914 in Ferriday , Louisiana , † February 15, 2002 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American journalist , television presenter and actor .
Life
Smith studied at Tulane University in New Orleans and for a year in 1936 at Heidelberg University . After completing his studies, he initially worked as a reporter for the New Orleans Item , United Press in London and The New York Times newspapers. In 1940 he was sent to Germany on behalf of CBS , where he interviewed Adolf Hitler , Heinrich Himmler and Joseph Goebbels , among others . From 1941 to 1945 he lived in Switzerland with his wife. From 1962 to 1979 Smith worked on the ABC Evening News as a television presenter for ABC television. In the 1970s and 1980s he was also seen in several film and television roles as an actor, so he played in 13 productions.
He was married to Benedicte Traberg Smith (1921-2008) from 1942 and had two children.
