The Livingston Parish ( French Paroisse de Livingston ) is a Parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . At the 2010 census , the Parish had 128,026 residents and a population density of 76.3 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Livingston .

Livingston Parish is part of the metropolitan area around the city of Baton Rouge .

The Parish is located in southeast Louisiana, about 35 km north of Mississippi and has an area of ​​1820 square kilometers, of which 142 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following parishes:

Livingston Parish was formed in 1832 from parts of St. Helena Parish. It was named after Edward Livingston (1764-1836), a former Secretary of State of the United States.

The administrative center was originally in the now defunct Van Buren and was moved to Springfield in 1835 . In 1871 Port Vincent became the seat of the Perish administration. Another move followed ten years later, and Centerville became the new Parish Seat. In 1941 the decision was made for the current seat of administration in Livingston .

Twelve structures and sites in the Parish are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of November 5, 2017).

Demographic data

According to the 2000 census , Livingston Parish had 91,814 people in 32,630 households and 25,549 families. The population density was 55 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.35 percent white, 4.22 percent African American, 0.36 percent Native American, 0.18 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.19 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.68 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 1.11 percent of the population.

Of the 32,630 households, 41.6 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 63.1 percent were married couples living together, 10.7 percent were single mothers, 21.7 percent were non-families, 18.2 percent were single households and 6.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.17.

In relation to the entire Parish, the population was composed of 29.5 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 9.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 31.5 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 21.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 8.5 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 94.5 men.

The median income for a household in the 38,887 USD , and the median income for a family was 44,071 USD. Males had a median income of $ 36,508 versus $ 22,325 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,282. 9.1 percent of families and 11.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 11.7 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 15.8 percent were people over 65 years of age.
