The Lincoln Parish ( French : Paroisse de Lincoln ) is a parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . In 2010, the parish had 46,735 residents and a population density of 38.3 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Ruston .

The Parish is located in northern Louisiana, about 30 km from Arkansas and has an area of 1223 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It borders on the following parishes:

Abraham Lincoln

The Lincoln Parish was formed in 1873 from parts of the Bienville Parish, Claiborne Parish, Jackson Parish and Union Parish. It was named after Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), the sixteenth President of the USA.

According to the 2000 census , Lincoln Parish had 42,509 people in 15,235 households and 9,689 families. The population density was 35 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 57.42 percent white, 39.84 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 1.28 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.52 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.75 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 1.16 percent of the population.

Of the 15,235 households, 30.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 44.5 percent were married couples living together, 15.3 percent were single mothers, 36.4 percent were non-families, 27.0 percent were single households and 9.4 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.01.

In relation to the entire Parish, the population was composed of 22.1 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 25.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 17.6 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 11.3 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 26 years. Statistically, for every 100 females there were 94.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 90.9 men.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 26,977 , and the median income for a family was $ 38,972. Males had a median income of $ 32,376 versus $ 20,877 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,313. 18.2 percent of families and 26.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 30.1 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 18.1 percent were people over 65 years of age.
