The Acadia Parish ( French. : Paroisse de l'Acadie ) is a Parish in US -amerikanischen State Louisiana . At the 2010 census , the Parish had 61,773 residents and a population density of 36.4 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is Crowley . The Acadia Parish is named after the French colonial region in the Canadian maritime provinces .

The Parish is located south of the geographic center of Louisiana and is traversed by the Mermentau River, which flows into the Gulf of Mexico, about 80 km away . history
Acadia Parish was formed on June 30, 1886 from parts of St. Landry Parish. It was named after the refugees from Nova Scotia .
