Duson is a town partly in Acadia Parish and partly in Lafayette Parish in the US state of Louisiana . In the United States Census 2000 , the place had 1672 inhabitants. The town's namesake is Curley Duson .

The part belonging to Lafayette Parish is located in the Metropolitan Statistical Area of Lafayette , while the part of Dusons located in Acadia Parish is part of the Micropolitan Statistical Area of Crowley .

history

Originally known as Duson Station , the town was founded by JG Parkerson, general manager of the Louisiana Western Railroad . On August 30, 1880, the railway line from New Orleans to Houston was completed and operations with freight and passenger trains began. In 1900 the company was merged with the Southern Pacific Railroad . Duson was incorporated as a village on December 16, 1909 and Adolph De Jean was appointed its first mayor. The place was named after the land developer Curley Duson.

In 1927 the St. Theresa Catholic Church was completed. Cotton farms were the main source of agricultural income in the region. Three cotton gins existed in Duson until the mid-1960s. Two of them were destroyed by fire, the third was demolished.
