Gueydan is a place in Vermilion Parish in the US state of Louisiana .

history

At the beginning of the history of Gueydan it was a hunting paradise with large game and fish stocks. Jean Pierre Gueydan , the town's founder, often came to the present location of Gueydan in 1860 to hunt game and birds. Jean Pierre and Francois Gueydan bought the 160 km² area in 1896 and founded a small village. In 1902 the founder Jean Pierre offered land shares for sale to the settlers. The growing place suffered several catastrophes, such as the fires in 1901, 1903, 1910, and 1927, and there was a great flood in August 1940 that flooded the whole place.
