Orange is the capital and seat of the county seat of Orange County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city on US Highway 90 , at the confluence of the Sabine River with the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway in southeast Texas, near the Louisiana border , is approximately 40 km from the Gulf of Mexico in the south and has a total area of 53.8 km², of which 1.8 km² of water is.

According to the 2000 census, 18,643 people in 7,310 households and 5,021 families lived here. The population density was 358.5 inhabitants per km². The racial the population was composed of 60.59% White, 35.36% African American, 0.38% Native American, 1.17% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, and 1.08% other ethnic groups. About 1.35% were of mixed race and 3.62% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 7,310 households, 31.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 46.5% of them were married couples living together. 18.3% were single mothers and 31.3% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were single households and there were people living in 12.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.01.
27.4% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.7% 18 to 24, 26.5% 25 to 44, 21.7% 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 92.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 86.2 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,519 , and the median income for a family is $ 37,473. Males had a median income of $ 37,238 versus $ 21,445 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,535. 22.9% of the population and 20.5% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 34.0% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 16.0% were 65 or older.
