Steven Matt Bryant (born May 29, 1975 in Orange , Texas , United States ) is an American football player on the position of the kicker . Most recently he played for the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League (NFL).

Early years

Bryant went to high school in Bridge City , Texas . Here he played American football and baseball . For high school, Bryant set the record for the longest field goal in school history (52 yards ). He later attended Baylor University . Here he achieved a 100 percent quota when converting the extra point (42-42).

NFL Europe

After he was not considered in the 1999 NFL Draft , Bryant signed a contract with the Iowa Barnstormers ( Arena Football League ), but was fired before the season began. So he signed a contract with the New York Giants , which passed him on to the NFL Europe for the Berlin Thunder . Due to an injury, he did not play a game for this team and the club dissolved the contract. The New York Giants referred Bryant to Frankfurt Galaxy on. Again, he didn't play a single game.

NFL

In 2002, Bryant was part of the 53-man roster of an NFL team, the New York Giants, for the first time. In his first season he played all 16 games of the season. In 2004 he joined the Indianapolis Colts for one game day, then the Miami Dolphins for three game days. For the 2005 season he signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . On October 22, 2006, Bryant shot a decisive 62-yard field goal for the Buccaneers against the Philadelphia Eagles , at the time the second longest ever shot. In September 2009, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers split from Bryant. He then signed with the Florida Tuskers , in the defunct United Football League , a contract before moving to the Atlanta Falcons . He was elected to the Pro Bowl for the first time after the 2016 season . He also reached the Super Bowl LI with the Falcons , which was lost 28:34 to the New England Patriots . Bryant converted all four extra points in that game. After the 2018 season , he was fired despite good performances. With 1,122 points, he left the Falcons as the top scorer of the franchise. Since neither Giorgio Tavecchio nor Blair Walsh knew how to convince in the preseason of the 2019 season , the Falcons equipped him with a new one-year contract on August 31, 2019. On October 29, Bryant was fired from the Falcons after missing two field goals and replaced by Younghoe Koo .

Personal

Bryant is married and has seven children. In 2008, his firstborn son died of sudden infant death . The couple then opened the "Matthew Tryson Bryant Foundation" to raise public awareness of this medical phenomenon.
