The 2005 NFL season was the 86th season of American football in the National Football League (NFL). The regular season began on 8 September 2005 and ended on 1 January 2006.
This season, the first regular season game took place outside the United States . The San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals played on October 2, 2005 at the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City . The Arizona Cardinals won 31:14.
The New Orleans Saints were forced to play in Baton Rouge and San Antonio outside of New Orleans , Louisiana due to damage from Hurricane Katrina .
The season ended with the Pro Bowl on February 12 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu , Hawaii .
For the last time after 36 years, the Monday Night Football Monday games were broadcast on ABC .

Play-offs
The play-offs began on January 7th and ran through January 22, 2006. The New England Patriots were eliminated in the divisional play-offs and the Pittsburgh Steelers won their fifth Super Bowl .
