Tedy Bruschi Lacap (* 9. June 1973 in San Francisco , California ) is a former American American football player . Since 1996 he played for the New England Patriots as the inside linebacker . He retired on August 31, 2009.

Career

Bruschi went to the University of Arizona , where he played in the NCAA Division IA and had the record for most quarterback sacks there .

In 1996 he was recruited by the Patriots in the third round of the NFL Draft .

Bruschi had the preference to catch passes of the opponents ( interception ) and then bring them to a touchdown . His career spanned over 800 tackles , 27 sacks, and 11 interceptions, four of which were touchdowns. 12 of the 27 Sacks made Bruschi in the fourth quarter (Engl. District ). In 2005 Bruschi made it to the Pro Bowl , but immediately afterwards he had to go to hospital for a few months because of serious illnesses ( mild stroke ). Bruschi could play again during the normal season. That's why he won the Co-NFL Comeback POY (Best Comeback Award).

Due to his ability to quickly recognize the opponent's moves (anticipation), Bruschi is considered one of the best linebackers in the league. In February 2009, Tedy Bruschi signed a new three-year contract with the Patriots until 2011, with the option to switch to the management of the Patriots afterwards, but already retired in September 2009.

Outside of play, Bruschi is a saxophone player and lives in North Attleborough , Massachusetts with his wife Heidi and three children .
