The 2001 NFL season was the 82nd season of American football in the National Football League (NFL). The regular season began on September 9, 2001 and ended on January 7, 2002. The season ended with the Pro Bowl on February 12 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu , Hawaii .
As a result of the September 11 attacks , the games, which were scheduled for September 16 and 17, were postponed to the weekend of January 6 and 7, 2002.
In the regular season, 16,387,289 people watched the games, that is 66,078 per game.
This was the final season before the NFL was reorganized into eight divisions. The previous divisions AFC-West, AFC-Central, AFC-East and NFC-West, NFC-Central, NFC-East have now been divided into AFC- and NFC-North, East, South and West.
NFL draft
The 2001 NFL Draft took place April 21-22 at Madison Square Garden in New York City . By exchanging draft rights, the San Diego Chargers gave their first-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons , which selected quarterback Michael Vick from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University as the first player in the draft.

Play-offs
