The 1967 NFL season was the 48th season of American football in the National Football League (NFL), which at the time, along with the American Football League (AFL), was the top football league in the United States . The regular season began on September 17, 1967 and ended exactly three months later, on December 17, 1967.

The New Orleans Saints began playing in the NFL in 1967 as the 16th franchise. The team was assigned to the Eastern Conference. The Atlanta Falcons, who joined last year, moved to the Western Conference. The two conferences were divided into two divisions this season, with four teams playing in each division. The divisions in the Eastern Conference were the Capitol and Century Divisions and in the Western Conference the Central and Coastal Divisions. The division winners were qualified for the play-offs.

In the NFL Championship Game , later known as the Ice Bowl , the Green Bay Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys . The Super Bowl II was held on 14 January 1968th The Oakland Raiders , champions of the American Football League, lost to the Packers at 14:33.

NFL draft

The 1967 draft took place from March 14-15 at the Gotham Hotel in New York City and was the first joint draft of the NFL and AFL . A total of 445 players were selected in 17 rounds, with the Baltimore Colts choosing the first player in the draft with the Defensive Tackle Bubba Smith from Michigan State University . Actually, the New Orleans Saints should have chosen the first player as the new NFL team , but had swapped the pick with the Colts.

Play-offs

The play-offs took place from December 23, 1967 to January 7, 1968. The winners of the four divisions competed against each other. The Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers defeated their opponents in the Conference Championship Games and competed against each other on December 31st. The Packers won the game with 21:17 and became champions of the NFL.

Super Bowl II

Super Bowl II took place on January 14, 1968 at the Orange Bowl in Miami , Florida . The NFL champions, the Green Bay Packers team, competed against the AFL champions, the Oakland Raiders . The Packers defeated the Raiders 33:14, and Bart Starr was elected Super Bowl MVP for the second time in a row .

Pro Bowl

The Pro Bowl was held on January 21, 1968 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum between the Eastern and Western Conference. The Western Conference team won 38:20. Running back Gale Sayers and linebacker Dave Robinson were selected as the most valuable players in the Pro Bowl .
