The 1999 NFL season marked the 80th season in American football for the National Football League (NFL). The first regular season game took place on September 12, 1999. The St. Louis Rams won the Super Bowl .
With the resumption of game operations by the Cleveland Browns , the number of teams rose to 31. This meant, among other things, a change in the rules for the game-free week and changed dates for the start of the game season.
The Tennessee Oilers changed their name to Tennessee Titans and from then on played their games at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
A system for monitoring referee decisions by video recording was introduced with changed regulations.
