Christopher D. "Cris" Carter (* 25. November 1965 in Troy , Ohio ) is a former American American football poker players and sports presenter. The 1.91 meter tall Carter played the position of the wide receiver . He played primarily for the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League (NFL). On February 2, 2013, Carter was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame .

NFL

Carter was a talented wide receiver in college football with the Ohio State Buckeyes , but was caught accepting illegal cash. Therefore, he could not be drafted regularly in the NFL Draft 1987 by the Philadelphia Eagles , but only via the detour of a so-called "supplemental pick". After a rather modest rookie year, Carter established himself as a prolific wide receiver, catching six and eleven touchdowns respectively in 1988 and 1989. But since he got increasing drug problems, he was released by Coach Buddy Ryan . The contractless Carter was accepted by the Minnesota Vikings and flourished there: with eight seasons with at least 78 throws caught (he reached 122 twice), at least ten touchdowns and always over 1,000 yards of space gain, eight pro bowls and the inclusion in the NFL 1990s All- Decade Team , he became one of the best receivers of the decade. But despite a strong team with pro bowlers like Randy Moss , John Randle or Gary Anderson , it was never enough to participate in a Super Bowl . At the end of his career, Carter was still playing for the Miami Dolphins in 2002 . Since then he has been working as a sports analyst on American TV.

Carter was one of the most consistent wide receivers in recent NFL history. His 130 touchdown catches and 1,101 throws caught were each fourth on the NFL all-time rankings, and his five two-point conversions were third. In 2013, he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame .

Private life

Carter's son Duron also played football at Ohio State University.
