Brian Dawkins (* 13. October 1973 in Jacksonville , Florida ) is a former American American football poker players, who on the position of the Free Safeties played. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Denver Broncos in the National Football League (NFL). He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018 for his achievements on the field .
College football
Dawkins was a three year starter at Clemson University in South Carolina . He finished his career with the Clemson Tigers with 247 tackles and eleven interceptions . In his senior year, he was a 2nd Team All American when he led the Conference with six interceptions.
NFL
Philadelphia Eagles
Brian Dawkins was selected in 1996 in the second round (61st player) of the NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles . In his rookie season, he scored 75 tackles, one sack and three interceptions in 13 of 14 games . Throughout his career, Dawkins was elected to the Pro Bowl seven times (1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008) and is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles 75th Anniversary Team .
Denver Broncos
After the 2008 season he moved in the free agency period from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Denver Broncos . There he signed a five-year contract.
resignation
On April 23, 2012, Dawkins announced his resignation via Twitter . His reason for this was that he wanted to resign as long as he had no further physical complaints from the sport. He wants to stay in Colorado and work as a high school football coach there.
On April 28, 2012, he signed a one-day contract with the Philadelphia Eagles so that he resigned as an Eagle. The Eagles then announced that they would no longer be awarding his jersey number (20) (in game week four of the 2012 season against the New York Giants ).
