DeMarcus Omar Ware (born July 31, 1982 in Auburn , Alabama ) is a retired American football player on the position of the defensive end . He played college football at Troy University before being selected eleventh in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys . In 2014 he moved from the Cowboys to the Denver Broncos within the National Football League (NFL) . He was selected nine times for the Pro Bowl and led the NFL after two seasons in sacks .

Career

college

Ware attended Troy University where he twice to the All-Sun Belt Conference selection part and as a senior for Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year was chosen. In 2004 he led his team to the first bowl game in the history of the university by participating in the Silicon Valley Football Classic. He finished his college career with 27.5 sacks, 195 tackles , ten forced fumbles, and one interception .

NFL

Dallas Cowboys

Most scouts rated Ware as a "DE / OLB Springer", even though he only played as a defensive end in college. He was considered the ideal rush linebacker in the 3-4 defense and an early second-round pick. Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones chose Ware as eleventh player. So he overruled Head Coach Bill Parcells , who preferred Marcus Spears and who was ultimately drafted in 20th place by the Cowboys.

Ware was a regular from the start and was able to book his first bag on the third day of the 2005 season against the San Francisco 49ers . He was voted Defensive Rookie of the Month in October with 16 tackles and three sacks . On matchday 16 he got three sacks and three fumbles against the Carolina Panthers , whereupon he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week . He finished the season with 47 tackles, 8 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles.

His breakthrough came in 2006 when he scored 11.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 2 defensive touchdowns, earning him his first appearance in the Pro Bowl .

Ware thus developed into one of the best 3-4 outside linebackers and he managed to lead the NFL in 2008 and 2010 with 20 and 15.5 sacks respectively.

After nine seasons, Ware was fired by the Cowboys on March 11, 2014.

Denver Broncos

On March 12, 2014 one day after his release, Ware signed a three-year contract for 30 million dollars for the Denver Broncos . The 2014 season finished goods with 10 Sacks and an interception. His team finished the regular season with a record of 12 wins and 4 losses and was defeated in the divisional round of the play-offs to the Indianapolis Colts with 13:24.

In 2015 , the Broncos provided the best defense in the NFL, which had again led the team to twelve wins. Ware contributed 7.5 sacks and 25 tackles and missed five games due to injury. In the 23:16 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the divisional round of the play-offs, he got three tackles and the bag that secured the victory against Ben Roethlisberger . It was the first time in his career that Ware was in a championship game. In the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots , the defense of the Broncos Patriots quarterback Tom Brady put constant pressure and hit him a total of 27 times, which was the key to the 20:18 success. In Super Bowl 50 , the Broncos defensive made all the difference when Ware and Von Miller alone sank the Carolina Panthers ' quarterback Cam Newton 4.5 times. The Broncos won 24:10 and Ware won his first Super Bowl ring in his eleventh season.

Before the 2016 season, he agreed with the Broncos on a restructuring of his contract, which will do justice to his future role, in which he will mainly be used in third down for reasons of age.

On March 13, 2017, Ware announced the end of his career.
