Larry Christopher Allen Senior (* 27. November 1971 in Los Angeles , California ) is a former American American football player in the NFL . He is considered one of the best guards of all time.
college
Allen played as a guard on the offense at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park , California . Allen developed outstanding athletic skills at college and, in addition to protecting his quarterbacks, had the task of blocking his own running back through the opposing defense . In one game, his team managed to set a record by scoring 334 yards in the running game .
Profile career
In the 1994 NFL Draft , Allen was signed to 46th place by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round. The Cowboys were the dominant football team in the 1990s. Numerous star players played in their ranks. The quarterback Troy Aikman , the wide receiver Michael Irvin and running back Emmitt Smith were the nightmare of opposing defenses. Everyone, together with Nate Newton and center Mark Stepnoski , who later moved to the Houston Oilers , understood perfectly how to protect his quarterback from attacks by opposing defenders and was also able to repeatedly act as a blocker for Emmitt Smith. In 1995 the Cowboys were able to move into the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers trained by Mike Holmgren under their coach Barry Switzer . They defeated the team led by quarterback Brett Favre 38:27. Honors
Allen played eleven times in the Pro Bowl, the season finale game of the best players of the season. He was also used on the offensive tackle position . He is a member of the National Football League 1990s All-Decade Team , the National Football League 2000s All-Decade Team, and The Dallas Cowboys 40th Anniversary Team . The Dallas Cowboys honor him at the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor . In 2013 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame .
Off the field
Allen is married and has three children. Allen and other Cowboys players support a school for children with Down syndrome .
