Dwight Freeney Jason (* 19th February 1980 in Hartford , Connecticut ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the defensive ends and linebackers . He played with the Indianapolis Colts , the San Diego Chargers , the Arizona Cardinals , the Atlanta Falcons , the Seattle Seahawks and the Detroit Lions in the National Football League (NFL). With the Indianapolis Colts he won the Super Bowl XLI .

Career

college

Freeney began his football career in college football at Syracuse University . There he set the school record of 17.5 sacks in his last season . He managed a total of 34 sacks and thus took second place in the ranking.

NFL

Indianapolis Colts

Dwight Freeney was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2002 NFL Draft . He set a record in his first season with nine forced fumbles . No rookie has managed this before. Two years later, in the 2004 season , he got the most in the NFL with 16 sacks.

When his rookie contract expired in 2007, the Colts extended Freeney's long-term contract, negotiating a total of 72 million US dollars . That made him the highest-paid defense player in the NFL. The following year he was replaced by Jared Allen as the most expensive defender.

San Diego Chargers

On May 18, 2013, he signed a two-year contract with the San Diego Chargers .

Arizona Cardinals

After the contract was not renewed, he signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals on October 12, 2015 .

Atlanta Falcons

On August 2, 2016, he was signed by the Atlanta Falcons . He reached the Super Bowl ( Super Bowl LI ) with the Falcons for the third time in his career , which was lost to the New England Patriots at 28:34 .

After the 2016 season he was released into the Free Agency by the Falcons  , but was willing to return to them.

Seattle Seahawks

Freeney signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent on October 24, 2017 .

Detroit Lions

On November 21, 2017, Freeney was released from the Seahawks and taken over by the Detroit Lions via the waiver system the next day .

resignation

On April 19, 2018, he announced his retirement from active sports. He had previously signed a one-day contract with the Colts to be able to resign as a member of the team he had played with for eleven seasons.
At the end of May it was announced that Freeney would work as a TV analyst for the league's own TV station NFL Network .
