Ray Anthony Lewis (* 15. May 1975 in Bartow , Florida ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the middle linebackers . He played for the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League (NFL). Lewis won two Super Bowls ( XXXV , XLVII ) with the Ravens . In Super Bowl XXXV he was voted Super Bowl MVP .

Ray Lewis played for the University of Miami before being selected in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens in 1996 after four years of college football in the NFL Draft . After the 2000 season , he won the Super Bowl with the Ravens and was voted Super Bowl MVP . In 2000 and 2003 he was named Defensive Player of the Year .

He is on the cover of the video game Madden 2005 from EA Sports illustrated.

On October 15, 2012, he announced that the 2012 season would be his last. In his last season, the Ravens again managed to make it into the Super Bowl. In a 34:31 victory in Super Bowl XLVII over the San Francisco 49ers , Lewis made the last game of his career and won his second championship.

Ray Lewis was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on February 3, 2018 .

Community service

In addition to his professional career, Lewis was already engaged in charitable activities. He founded the Ray Lewis 52 Foundation . This non-profit foundation has the task of providing financial help to workers and disadvantaged young people. The foundation sponsors events including an annual celebrity auction and bowling tournament, the great Maryland Duck Derby, and Thanksgiving dinner on North Avenue in Baltimore .

Private

Lewis has six children with four wives. His son, Ray Lewis III, studied at the University of Miami from 2013 and played there for the Hurricanes. He later moved to Coastal Carolina University

Murder charges

During the Super Bowl XXXIV festivities in Atlanta in January 2000, Lewis got into an argument in the course of which two people were stabbed to death. Lewis was arrested, noticing that he had removed the suit he was wearing at the time: the suit was never found. Lewis was charged with the murder, but sentenced to one year suspended sentence and one-third of the cost of the trial only for obstruction of policing and false testimony. From the NFL, he was with a record fine of 250,000 US dollars occupied. In 2004, Lewis reached an out-of-court settlement with the relatives of the victims on a "six-figure" sum.
