Joseph Vincent "Joe" Flacco (* 16th January 1985 in Audubon , Camden County, New Jersey ) is an American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . He won Super Bowl XLVII with the Baltimore Ravens . In the 2019 season he was under contract with the Denver Broncos in the National Football League (NFL), he is currently a free agent .

Career

From 2003 Flacco first studied at the University of Pittsburgh , where he could not assert himself in the position of quarterback and remained in the role of back-up. Because of this, he moved to the University of Delaware . Since Flacco did not reach an agreement with the University of Pittsburgh to cancel his scholarship, he was only allowed to play for Delaware in 2006. There he managed to set up numerous team records in his first season as a starting quarterback . In the following year he drew attention to himself, with only five interceptions for 23 touchdowns thrown . He became the first University of Delaware player to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft .

NFL career

Flacco was selected by the Baltimore Ravens as the 18th player in the first round of the NFL Draft in 2008. Although he was only intended as a back-up behind Kyle Boller and Troy Smith in his rookie season , he had to appear as starting quarterback in the opening game of the 2008 season due to a serious injury to Bollers and an illness of Smith . With constant performance he kept this position throughout the season and led the Ravens into the play-offs . He is the first rookie quarterback to win two postseason games.

He was named NFL Rookie of the Year 2008 on January 29, 2009 .

With 44 wins in the regular season over the first four years of his career, he holds an NFL record for quarterbacks.

When the Baltimore Ravens won Super Bowl XLVII on February 3, 2013, Flacco was named Super Bowl MVP . In March 2013, Flacco and the Ravens agreed on a contract extension to 2019. With a fee of 120.6 million US dollars over the entire term, Flacco was the highest-paid football player until April 2013, when Aaron Rodgers signed his contract with the Green Bay Packers extended it and got even more salary. He had to end the 2015 season prematurely due to a torn cruciate ligament that he suffered on matchday 11 in the game against the St. Louis Rams . Despite his serious injury, after the season ended, the Ravens extended his existing contract by three years until 2021.

Flacco at the Broncos (2019)

On February 13, 2019, it was announced that Flacco would trade for a four-round pick for the new season for the Denver Broncos after the Ravens had chosen Lamar Jackson as their future starting quarterback. He played eight games for the Broncos in 2019 before being placed on the injured reserve list due to a neck injury . With Flacco as a starter, Denver won two games and recorded six losses.

On March 19, 2020, Flacco was released from the Broncos.
