Etuini Haloti Ngata (born on 21st January 1984 in Inglewood , California ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the defensive tackles , the last for the Philadelphia Eagles was active. He played college football for the University of Oregon and was voted All-American . In the 2006 NFL Draft , the Baltimore Ravens selected him in the first round. Early years
Ngata was born the son of Tongan immigrants in Inglewood, California. He attended Highland High School in Salt Lake City , Utah , where he was a regular on the defensive line for three years . As a senior, he made more than 100 tackles and 30 sacks , and was named Utah Gatorade Player of the Year in 2001. Rivals.com rated him a five-star talent, second best junior player in the United States after Vince Young, and best defender of his class. He received a variety of scholarship offers and eventually chose the University of Oregon.
In 2003 he tore his right anterior cruciate ligament and dropped out for the Oregon Ducks for the remainder of the season, but became one of the top players in college football over the next two seasons . In 2004 and 2005 he got 107 tackles, 17.5 tackles for yard loss and 6.5 sacks and he was named Junior Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year . In addition, he was named All-American, which he succeeded as the first player in the Oregon Ducks for 43 years. Baltimore Ravens
Ngata was selected as the twelfth player in the 2006 draft by the Baltimore Ravens . Thus, for the first time in their franchise history , the Ravens used a first-round pick for a defensive lineman.
